Riddle of the Sphinx was a game cartridge for the Atari 2600 published by Imagic in 1982. The graphics were primitive but it was one of the more complex games for the 2600, requiring the use of two joysticks and including a variety of objects that could be picked up and used.
You play the Pharoah’s son, scrolling forever upwards, trading with friendly merchants, avoiding thieves and scorpions. You also encounter two of Egyptian deities: beautiful, healing Isis and bestial, toxic Anubis.
I loved the icon-like aesthetic of the gods rendered in low-resolution early-80s graphics. The imagery has stuck with me throughout my life and here is my interpretation on hand-built ceramic plates.
These are still available as of 5/18/26. Reach out if you would like to own them.
