Crimson Ghost Masks

I accept that a perfect copy of the illustration/movie stills is not only not within my skillset, but also not desirable. The original is a distorted skull shape. The slightly uncomfortable distortion is why it worked so well for a super-villain's public face and for the mascot of a horror-themed punk band. I'm distorting it further and now I'm claiming it for my own.

I was going to write here about The Crimson Ghost. Please, assorted passers-by and stalkers, may I please lecture you about the Crimson Ghost? What? You consent? I encountered this macabre skull face on the album art of the Misfits. I eventually learned that it was from a 1946 movie serial called The Crimson Ghost and always assumed it was horror genre. It's not horror. The Crimson Ghost is not an undead being. He's an evil genius in a spooky mask who wants to steal a device that can interrupt electrical activity for the purpose of crime. He has sinister technology such as syringes full of drugs that bend one's mind to his evil will and a collar that allows him to stay in communication and will explode if anyone tries to take it off, killing the wearer.

Skeletal Santa

I made a Christmas tree ornament last year of skeletal Santa Claus face with some AI-sourced images as inspiration. It was damaged in the glaze kiln and this is my remake.

Damaged Santa from last year. The left holly leaf/bat wing broke off and floated across the liquid glaze into the right eye socket while in the glaze kiln. The holly leaf/bat wing is my human contribution to the design and that was the part that broke. The overall shape of the face came from one AI image and the holly leaf and berries came from a different AI image. It makes me feel dirty inside to admit to using an AI image generator for the design, but as usual, it's hot to break taboos. I'm always using found images as models and inspiration. These sources happen not to be human creativity.  Art is theft. Culture is theft.
