Aberrant Ceramics is the artwork of Aaron Nosheny,
potter and ceramic artist based in Tucson, Arizona. Self-taught and neurodivergent, he has worked in the medium of stoneware clay since 2004, developing a practice rooted in literal construction and obsessive repetition. He makes non-traditional ceramics in a medium built on tradition, exploring the overlap between wonder and revulsion. Subject matter includes sympathetic monsters, insects, opossums, fast food mascots, and Halloween kitsch.

I am in love with my medium. I love the process of frantically birthing clay monstrosities, subjecting them to an epic trial by fire, and sending them out into the world.

Riddle of the Sphinx Plates

Riddle of the Sphinx was a game cartridge for the Atari 2600 published by Imagic in 1982. The graphics were primitive but it was one of the more complex games for the 2600, requiring the use of two joysticks and including a variety of objects that could be picked up and used.

You play the Pharoah’s son, scrolling forever upwards, trading with friendly merchants, avoiding thieves and scorpions. You also encounter two of Egyptian deities: beautiful, healing Isis and bestial, toxic Anubis.

I loved the icon-like aesthetic of the gods rendered in low-resolution early-80s graphics. The imagery has stuck with me throughout my life and here is my interpretation on hand-built ceramic plates.

These are still available as of 5/18/26. Reach out if you would like to own them.

Riddle of the Sphinx was a game for the Atari 2600 with a mythological Egyptian theme.  This project involves the blocky game images of Isis and Anubis.

I've been thinking of making a Cthulhuoid Nativity Scene for years.  This was intended as one of the manger animals.

Grief Speedo:

Still building and glazing at home, but it may be a long time before I have access to a kiln again.

Looks like the pottery studio will be closing to encourage social isolation.  It's possible that I'll be able to claim some kind of special immunity from reality and retain firing privileges or at least access to my shelves.
