Aberrant Ceramics is the artwork of Aaron Nosheny,
potter and ceramic artist based in Tucson, Arizona. Self-taught and neurodivergent, he has worked in the medium of stoneware clay for 21 years, developing a practice rooted in literal construction and obsessive repetition. He makes non-traditional ceramics in a medium built on tradition, exploring the overlap between wonder and revulsion. Subject matter includes sympathetic monsters, insects, opossums, fast food mascots, and Halloween kitsch.

I am in love with my medium. I love the process of frantically birthing clay monstrosities, subjecting them to an epic trial by fire, and sending them out into the world.

The Hairy Reptile Snowman

View the finished Wampa Cup here.

Tonight I consulted my list of clay projects and selected "Wampa Devotion."  It was intended to be a small grotesque sculpture with a molded wampa face.  The wampa is of course the hairy reptile snowman that assaults Luke Skywalker in The Empire Strikes Back, thereby explaining the facial scars from Mark Hamill's car accident within the Star Wars universe.

Instead I ended up with a Wampa Chalice.  I considered adding the tusks, but decided it didn't need them.
