Pages

Aberrant Ceramics is the artwork of Aaron Nosheny,
ceramic artist and potter in Tucson, Arizona.

I work in the medium of stoneware clay and make hand-built pottery, sculpture, hamsas, ornaments, masks, and a variety of other forms.

I’m a self-taught autistic artist working in my medium for over twenty years. I like monsters, insects, weird animals, body horror, folk horror, horror comedy, horror in general, Halloween decorations, fast food mascots, kitsch – all of these creep into my work, but there’s really no overarching theme.

I am in love with my medium. I love the process of frantically birthing clay monstrosities, subjecting them to an epic trial by fire, and sending them out into the world.

Tarot Devil

This is a ceramic wall mask in the shape of the Devil from the Rider-Waite Tarot deck.  He's called "The Devil" in keeping with the Judeo-Christian flavor of the deck, but it's clearly the wicked nature spirit Pan under whatever name you choose to call him.

Laboratory Tardigrade

I sold a tardigrade on Etsy a few months ago and the buyer asked me to make a tardigrade seated at a lab bench with a microscope, Petri dishes, and a plate reader.  The processes of drying, bisque firing, and glaze firing have taken about two months.

Hallucigenia Series

This is a new series of sculptural interpretations of the Burgess Shale organism called Hallucigenia.  They are based on the original, incorrect interpretation of Hallucigenia as a worm like creature with spine-like legs and tentacles on its back.  It has since been shown to be related to modern velvet worms and to be a creature with tentacle-like legs and spines on its back.
