Aberrant Ceramics is the artwork of Aaron Nosheny,
potter and ceramic artist based in Tucson, Arizona. Self-taught and neurodivergent, he has worked in the medium of stoneware clay for 21 years, developing a practice rooted in literal construction and obsessive repetition. He makes non-traditional ceramics in a medium built on tradition, exploring the overlap between wonder and revulsion. Subject matter includes sympathetic monsters, insects, opossums, fast food mascots, and Halloween kitsch.

I am in love with my medium. I love the process of frantically birthing clay monstrosities, subjecting them to an epic trial by fire, and sending them out into the world.

Bith Musical Instruments

I recently made some clay wall hangings in the shape of the members of Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes, the Bith band in the cantina on Tattooine in Star Wars Episode IV.  I also made the musical instruments to go along with them.  The instruments are well documented in the Star Wars universe although they're hard to see in the film itself.

The Bandfill:

The Ommni Box:

The Kloo Horn:

Two versions of the Fizz:

Two versions of the Fanfar:

I was hoping the experience of making flat clay versions of alien musical instruments would be fun and exciting and it was somewhat tedious, except for the bandfill, which I like.

Here are the Modal Nodes with their instruments from an album cover:

and here is a shot from the film, with the kloo horn, fanfar, and fizz visible.  You can also see part of the ommni box on the right.
