I attempted an interpretation of the second impish Santa mug. It came out grotesque and doesn't look anything like the original...
...but, it got me thinking about extra small eye cups.

Aberrant Ceramics is the artwork of Aaron Nosheny, potter and ceramic artist based in Tucson, Arizona. Self-taught and neurodivergent, he has worked in the medium of stoneware clay since 2004, developing a practice rooted in literal construction and obsessive repetition. He makes non-traditional ceramics in a medium built on tradition, exploring the overlap between wonder and revulsion. Subject matter includes sympathetic monsters, insects, opossums, fast food mascots, and Halloween kitsch.
I am in love with my medium. I love the process of frantically birthing clay monstrosities, subjecting them to an epic trial by fire, and sending them out into the world.

Impish Santa #1 WIP

Someone left some impish, slightly grotesque, miniature Santa Claus mugs at the pottery studio. Even though Santa Claus deviates from my usual content, I felt compelled to make a copy, if only to see how grotesque it turned out.

Hooded Entity WIP
View the finished Mr Unprounceable Objects here.
This is the third of the objects inspired by Mr Unpronounceable comics by Tim Molloy. The original drawing has a hooded entity with long, tendril-like arms which reach from the loose folds of its robe to the floor. Tendril-like appendages are likely to break, so I'm going to fire them separately and glue them in afterwards.

Blob of Bubbling Flesh With a Claw WIP
View the finished Mr Unpronounceable Objects here.
I've been reading Mr Unpronouceable Adventures, Tim Molloy's collection of comics about the psychedelic Lovecraftian adventures of a depraved occultist. Three sculptural objects appear on a shelf in a dream sequence while a demonic toothless tooth fairy gums the title character's arm. I thought the sculptural objects fit in well with the motifs of my work. This is the first one, a blob of bubbling flesh with a claw.

Large Normal Menorah
This is the last and the largest of my series of normal menorahs. This one has a spiral pattern and a glossy blue glaze. It's 14 inches long, 8 inches tall, and 1.5 inches thick. So who wants a normal menorah? Hanukkah is just around the corner and you don't want anyone to think you're not normal, right?
The spiral pattern comes from the head of this Bride of Frankenstein candle. Hopefully this doesn't affect its normalcy.

Mouth Molds, Part 1
I thought my pots could use some mouths in addition to all these eyes. I've been wondering what other recognizable body parts I could make as molds.
These are toothy, monstrous mouths:
This one is modeled on Patricia Quinn's lips in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. It came out backwards and I couldn't figure how to make it look like the teeth were erotically biting the lips. Also, there is too much space between the teeth and lips. I've already made a second attempt at this one.

New Eye Molds
I've gotten great mileage out of the eye molds I've made over the past few years, but I wanted some molds for smaller eyes. These are large images, but they're each less than an inch long.

Doll Devotion
This is a sculpture using a mold made from the face of a wooden sculpture found in a thrift store. It also uses the arms/hands from the prefabricated doll molds. It has a woman's face within a cobra's hood and four pairs of arms cupping four pairs of breasts.

Owl Mask Pot WIP
View the finished Niu Briten Pot here.
I found an image in Huber's Treasury of Fantastic and Mythological Creatures that I've been wanting to incorporate into a pot for a while. It's identified as an owl mask from the Baining people of New Britain, an island east of New Guinea and politically a part of Papua New Guinea.
I'm not sure if I like it yet, but I would like to point out that the original doesn't look much more like an owl than this does.
Part of me thinks that I should have left the pot unadorned.

Twenty-Eyed Pot
On this eye pot, I left off the tentacled connecting pattern between the eyes and was thus able to fit more eyes onto a smaller pot. This one has twenty eyes of various colors.

Bith Musical Instruments
I recently made some clay wall hangings in the shape of the members of Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes, the Bith band in the cantina on Tattooine in Star Wars Episode IV. I also made the musical instruments to go along with them. The instruments are well documented in the Star Wars universe although they're hard to see in the film itself.
The Bandfill:
The Ommni Box:
The Kloo Horn:
Two versions of the Fizz:
Two versions of the Fanfar:
I was hoping the experience of making flat clay versions of alien musical instruments would be fun and exciting and it was somewhat tedious, except for the bandfill, which I like.
Here are the Modal Nodes with their instruments from an album cover:
and here is a shot from the film, with the kloo horn, fanfar, and fizz visible. You can also see part of the ommni box on the right.

Twelve-Eyed Pot
This is my most recent eye pot. It's 5.5 inches in diameter, 5.5 inches tall, and has 12 jade green eyes. I don't aim for any specific number of eyes. I haven't ended up with the same number of eyes twice, so I haven't had any ambiguous titles yet. My titles are very straightforward, but it's a part of the process I enjoy. If I do get a repeat eye count, I was considering taking the Windows/Grand Theft Auto route and lapsing into a numbering system based on the order of its creation, temporarily or as long as it serves my needs.
