Aberrant Ceramics is the artwork of Aaron Nosheny,
ceramic artist and potter in Tucson, Arizona.

I work in the medium of stoneware clay and make hand-built pottery, sculpture, hamsas, ornaments, masks, and a variety of other forms.

I’m a self-taught autistic artist working in my medium for over twenty years. I like monsters, insects, weird animals, body horror, folk horror, horror comedy, horror in general, Halloween decorations, fast food mascots, kitsch – all of these creep into my work, but there’s really no overarching theme.

I am in love with my medium. I love the process of frantically birthing clay monstrosities, subjecting them to an epic trial by fire, and sending them out into the world.

Tarot Angel 1: Raphael

This is the archangel Raphael from The Lovers card in the Rider Waite Tarot.  I did a Tarot Devil so I thought I would try a few Tarot angels as well.

The Lovers card

It also reminds me of the Godspell logo.

Tardigrade 11

This completes my 2014 series of tardigrades.  So far I've given one away.  If I can sell or give away any others, I'll make more.

Tiny Microscope

This is a tiny clay microscope which was practice for the microscope used in the Laboratory Tardigrade piece.  I made three of them but the other two broke.

PAN

This is the horny goat god Pan.

Eye Cup #37

This is #37 in a series of slab mugs with molded eyes.  This one has three large blue eyes.  It also has eyelashes made from the seed pods of the screwbean mesquite plant.

Formless Spawn #4

This is the fourth in a series of Formless Spawn sculptures from around 2007.  Formless Spawn are Cthulhu Mythos entities from the writing of Clark Ashton Smith.

Formless Spawn #3

This is the third in a series of Formless Spawn from around 2007.  It's meant to depict one of the servitors of the Old One Tsathoggua.  It's chipped in several places and may have been damaged in the great moving disaster of 2010.

Formless Spawn #1

This is the first in a series of sculptures of Formless Spawn, servitors of the Old One Tsathoggua.  This one is from 2004 or 2005.  It's not hollow so it's only by good fortune or good wedging that it made it through the bisque kiln without exploding.

Formless Spawn #2

This is old work from about 2007.  I made a series of sculptures representing Formless Spawn, an entity from the Cthulhu Mythos, although not one invented by Lovecraft.  The Formless Spawn were invented by Clark Ashton Smith.  They were designated as the servitors of the Old One Tsathoggua.

I posted about them a few years ago, but I'm listing one of them on Etsy and I wanted to update the photography.

Purple Worm Commission WIP

Finished Purple Worm #3 sculpture

I made a few Purple Worm sculptures a few years ago and sold this one, named Roger, on Etsy.  The Purple Worm is a classic Dungeons & Dragons monster.  I got a commission to clone Roger.  I don't know if I succeeded in creating an exact replica, but it's another monstrous larva with a big mouth and a lot of teeth.

Eye Cup #34 With Dragon Eyes

The mottled gold effect was obtained by adding a layer of reddish brown glaze over a white glaze.
